Easy Online Filing

I used the Deluxe Online Filing this year. It was pretty straightforward to navigate, and I got my federal and state done quickly. I did have a small hiccup with a state tax form, but support helped me out. Overall, a good experience for the price.

Decent in-office experience

I went in for Professional In-Office Tax Preparation since my taxes were a bit more complex this year. Scheduling an appointment online was easy enough. The tax preparer was knowledgeable and answered all my questions, though she was a little slow getting started. She helped me with my self-employed tax prep. It took about an hour and a half end-to-end. I felt confident about the filing, and the refund advance loan option was a nice perk. I just wish the office had been a bit more organized when I first walked in.

Thinking about using Liberty Tax this year. What's the deal with their online vs in-person stuff? Is one way better for complicated stuff or does it not matter?

I used their online filing last year and it was fine for my pretty basic return. No issues. I'd say if you've got investments or a small business, maybe go in-person for sure.

Yeah, if your taxes are simple, online is probably good. But for anything tricky, like if you're self-employed or have a lot of deductions, going to an office probably makes more sense because you get a real person to look at it. They do both though, so you have options.
